So despite similar mathematical appearance, graph-theoretical measures in macro- and mesoconnectomic approaches can rely on different descriptive modeling assumptions. Sporns' view suggests that connectomes are permanent standards which enable experiments on other epistemic objects such as unknown neural functions that are partially determined by the connectivity structure of a nervous system. Moreover, damage to this connectivity has previously been associated with poor social and emotional intelligence and, in healthy subjects, interindividual variability in low-level emotional empathy—a basic socio-affective process known to engage the mirror network—has been correlated with DTI parameters in some parts of the SLF/arcuate fascicle (AF), especially in the right hemisphere (Parkinson & Wheatley, 2014). Compiling a complete and accurate matrix of distant but connected cortical areas is also complicated by the “gyral bias” of dMRI (Van Essen et al., 2013b). Sarcasm, on the other hand, relies upon more sophisticated understanding of the mental states of others, for in order to appreciate irony, one must understand that the speaker not only has a particular view, but wants the listener to share that view, despite the literal meaning of his or her utterance. Fibers that bend, disperse, cross, or “kiss” each other within a voxel can easily be missed or inaccurately modeled (cf.
